New student

A big congratulations on your acceptance to Uppsala University or SLU Ultuna! During your time in Uppsala you will encounter things you never have before, learn a lot about yourself and others, make a lot of new friends – and most of all, have a lot of fun!

Student nations exist for students, and are run by students. Almost all of the nation-life is built up and run by students working voluntarily. At Västgöta nation we have activities happening every day. Lunch, brunch, pub, choirs, theatre, newspaper – you name it. Here you will find something for everyone! To take part of the nation life you will need to become a member of a nation. A membership at one of the nations will give you access to all 13 nations in Uppsala.

At Västgöta nation you will make new friends, get the opportunity to try things you never have before, and challenge yourself. Come by and work our soup lunch, learn to pour a beer in our pub, or send an email to one of our choirs to get involved there. At our nation there is something for everyone. We hope that you feel welcome here!

Registration

At the start of each term our international secretaries and reccehosts will have our registration open in our house where they will help to answer any questions and help to sign members up. You can also contact our reccehosts at recce@vastgotanation.se. No question is to small!

You can also visit our First Curator during office hours to register as a member. In order to sign up you will need to bring identification (ID/passport) and a registration certificate.

A membership costs 305:- per term and when you sign up you will receive a temporary nation card until your nation card arrives in the mailbox, which usually takes a few weeks.

RECCE Reception OCH -GASQUE

At the start of each term the nation arranges a recce reception (recce is short for recentior and is pronounces “resse”) where the nation spends a day introducing new members to the nation life. The day is spent learning about the VG’s different activities, and finishes with a sexa (a simple dinner with some fun student-characteristics).

Following the recce reception is the reccegasque which is also held at the beginning of the term. All 13 nations will have the reccegasque on the same day, and it is a day filled with good food, entertainment, songs and traditions.

We strongly recommend you attend either the recce reception or one of the gasques held during the term. It is a fantastic way to make new friends and learn more about the student- and nation life here in Uppsala!
