Gasques

The tradition of gasques is perhaps something unique to student life in Uppsala that differs from any other student life in the world. Gasques are formal dinner parties that consist of great food, drinks, traditional Swedish schnapps songs, speeches, and other entertainment. The dinners are arranged by students, for students and there is typically a dress code that is semi-formal (for gasques) or formal (for balls). Bringing a suit or a nice dress with you to Uppsala is highly recommended! More casual dinner parties are called “sexas” and usually don’t have a dress code. In the beginning of each semester we arrange a recce-gasque to guide our new members through the gasque tradition, it is a great way to meet current members of the nation and learn more about VG. Make sure to be there!

Balls

The balls at Västgöta nation is like a gasque, just bit fancier and a bit more formal. The dress code is full dress, which means either a tail-coat with white vest or a ball gown. Traditionally, the nation arranges one ball per semester - the spring ball in spring and the autumn ball in autumn. Every fourth year we also host a leap year ball, just to give everyone an extra reason to dress up and enjoy themselves.
